Red oak is the most popular hardwood in the United States. The heartwood is light to medium brown. The sapwood is white to light brown. Red oaks grain is straight, with a coarse, uneven texture. It produces good results with hand and machine tools. Red oak glues, stains, and finishes well. Common uses are cabinetry, furniture, interior trim such as molding, flooring and veneer.
